Suffering from a skin disease: why don't you try the Dead Sea?

Psoriasis is not the only dermatological disease successfully treated at the Dead Sea !

About 25% of the patients coming yearly to the DMZ Medical Center for Climatotherapy suffer from this common, relapsing and chronic skin disease, which is more prevalent in children: Atopic Dermatitis.

In this affection, physicians usually prescribe drug treatment, (including topical corticosteroids, antibiotics, anthistamines or immunomodulators) or phototherapy. The principle of action is simple: the skin lesions are treated by light (UVA radiation or UVB radiation) delivered in cabin, associated (or not) to a medication taken before the light treatment, in order to enhance the effects of the irradiation. This treatment is also possible in a "natural manner", and without the need of any additional product: the Dead Sea is a classic destination for patients suffering from Atopic Dermatitis.

In an international review published in 2000, the authors concluded:
Climatotherapy treatment for Atopic Dermatitis at the Dead Sea is a highly effective modality for treating this disease. It is also a highly cost-effective method, as the patients take no medication and experience no side effects. Successful climatotherapy of Atopic Dermatitis requires strict medical supervision throughout the whole length of the patient' stay on shore.

More recently, Vitiligo patients learn that there are new hopes at the Dead Sea for their disease. Several hundreds of patients were successfully treated by protocols including Dead Sea bath and sun exposure, and some of them could report on total repigmentation of their skin lesions.

We are proud to bring here the opinion of one of the most prominent world expert in Vitiligo treatment. This leaves no doubt about the capabilities of this natural treatment:
In this study on 59 patients who had Vitiligo for an average time of 17 years, we demonstrated a pseudocatalase activity after 15 min of Dead Sea bathing.
Initiation of repigmentation was already observed between day 10 and day 16 after a combination of short-term climatotherapy (21 days) at the Dead Sea and a pseudocatalase cream (PC-KUS) compared to conventional pseudocatalase monotherapy (8-14 weeks) and Dead Sea climatotherapy alone (5-6 weeks).

Sunlight therapy can be a valuable treatment option for people with vitiligo. Eighty percent of the people who get regular daily doses of sunlight enjoy improvement of their lesions. Climatotherapy is a term used to discuss the use of sunlight and water, such as the ocean or other bodies of water, to treat psoriasis.
For climatotherapy, the best-known location is the Dead Sea in Israel, where each year thousands of people with psoriasis and other skin disease go for the extensive sun exposure and baths in the unique water. This treatment is very effective and safe in most cases, although it is an expensive option for people from the U.S. Other climatotherapy sites do exist around the world, but their facilities and reputation do not match that of the Dead Sea.

Our experience of over than 30,000 patients and scientific studies describing the treatments at the Dead Sea and their results leave no doubt that this natural treatment has the outstanding advantages of being:
  • highly effective
  • free of side effects during and after the treatment
  • very powerful modality of treatment even for refractory cases
  • suitable for children, with only very few contraindications
  • safe, very pleasant and well accepted

In skin diseases, like Psoriasis, it has been proven:
  • to clear almost all cases
  • to induce longer post treatment remission than other treatments
  • to have recurrences less severe
  • to allow social and psychological improvement
  • to use low doses of UV radiation and no local corticosteroids
  • to be more cost-effective than other treatments

Please consult the list of diseases and conditions treated at the Dead Sea, and know about our possibilities to treat your affection!
